Rome’s Hidden Gems: Personal Recommendations for Your Ideal Stay
Rome is a big city with so many sights and options of places to stay. Here are some places I personally recommend in various parts of the Eternal City!
Prices, of course, vary wildly depending on seasons and events. I have listed rates for the same time period (Aug. 2024) for comparison’s sake only.
Hotel Albergo del Senato – Right next to the Pantheon
Piazza della Rotonda, 73, Rome, Italy
This lovely hotel is as close to the Pantheon as you can get! Step out the front door and there it is! In all it’s huge, historic, stunning glory! This probably sounds lame but I kept thinking it looked like it was CGI’d into my view! So hard to wrap my mind around this magnificent, enormous, ancient building right in front of me as I ate my breakfast! 😀
The room was small but felt spacious due to the high ceiling. Decor was elegant! Though the room overlooked the busy Piazza of the Pantheon the windows blocked out nearly all of the sounds outside, very impressive!
$451 Double Room, Pantheon View, minimum stay 3 nights
Raffaello Inn VRBO – Historic Center between Trevi Fountain and Pantheon
Via Di Santo Stefano del Cacco, Rome, Italy
This charming VRBO is only a 7 minute walk from the Pantheon and the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II , and about 10 minutes to the Trevi Fountain. On a 2 minute walk away you have a supermarket and a cafe!
The apartment is on the second floor (first floor to Italians). There is a small elevator right outside the door to the apartment, as well as a flight of stairs. The apartment features a kitchenette with cooktop, refrigerator, microwave, Nespresso and toaster. Also a washing machine!
I loved staying here because of the charm of the building and apartment, the courteous, responsive, and funny host, and the proximity to so many sights and conveniences!
$270 per night, entire 1 bedroom apartment, minimum stay 2 nights
Hotel Ariston – Near Termini Train Station
Via Filippo Turati, 16, Rome, Italy
Hotel Ariston is one block from Termini Station. It is clean and a bit elegant, and it includes a good breakfast. It is a great place if you need to be close to the train station.
$140 per night, Deluxe Double Room
Elder Statesman Apartment – Near Colosseum in Monti District
6 of us stayed in a vacation rental apartment in the Monti District. The Monti District is great location to base yourself. Central to all of the sights, with lots of restaurants and cool shops.
The rental is a 10 minute walk from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. For 6 people, this apartment was clean, blessedly air-conditioned, with 3 bedrooms, a living room with a fold-out couch, 3 bathrooms(!), a small kitchen, and washing machine. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. One of the rooms has a king and twin bed and you can see the Roman Forum from the king bed through the window!
$509 per night, entire 3 bedroom apartment, minimum stay 2 nights
