Have you ever dreamed of spending a full month by the California coast — soaking up the sunshine, exploring a charming walkable beach town, and truly settling into “slow travel” life?

That was exactly my dream, and I finally made it happen at the Carpinteria Beach Cottages. These boutique cottages offer the perfect blend of comfort, retro charm, and small-town friendliness, just steps away from shops, restaurants, and the beautiful Carpinteria State Beach.

As a woman traveling with my dog and hosting friends throughout my stay, I experienced first-hand what it’s like to spend a month here, including how easy it was to settle in, feel safe, and enjoy local life without feeling overwhelmed.

Carpinteria Beach Cottages offer charming, retro-style accommodations a short walk to the beach. I stayed for 31 nights and share everything you need to know, from what the cottages are really like, to safety, booking tips, and why it’s ideal for solo female travelers seeking a relaxing California getaway. Hooray!

Inside the Cottage: Layout, Decor, & Amenities

I chose a two-bedroom cottage and made plans for various family and friends to come to visit me during my month-long stay. I also decided to bring my dog Journey (for an extra $150 charge).

The cottage has a covered carport/garage attached to it, complete with beach cruisers and beach chairs for you to use. There's a comfy front porch with old-timey patio furniture. The downstairs has an open floor plan with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and 1/2 bathroom. A really fun feature is the Big Chill retro appliances in the kitchen.

The cottage is new but has lots of vintage elements. The decor is retro-beachy with a little shabby chic thrown in. I just love the chandelier over the dining room table.

The living room is comfortable, with a smart TV, couch, and several chairs. The storage boxes hold games and puzzles.

Though it is called a “two-bedroom cottage,” it was actually 3 bedrooms upstairs! When I asked the property manager about it, she said the 3rd room didn't qualify as a bedroom according to the city or something. Not sure why, it's a room with beds in it, for sure!

The Master bedroom has a full-sized bed (so tall it was a workout to climb in!). There's a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and the “non-bedroom” has 2 twin beds. All of the beds were very comfortable. Upstairs are also two full bathrooms (one shower only, the Master with a bath/shower combo).

The grounds of the property are delightful, with various fruit trees, a picnic table area with swings and Adirondack chairs, and community barbecues to use.

Safety, Comfort & Solo Travel Vibe

The Carpinteria Beach Cottages are just 2 short blocks from lots of shops and restaurants on the “main drag” Linden Avenue. You can also walk to a market/ liquor store in a couple of minutes. Most importantly, the gorgeous Carpinteria State Beach is only a 8 minute walk!

The Carpinteria Amtrak Train station is across the street from the Cottages. It would be a fun thing to hop the train to visit Santa Barbara or other nearby beach towns! (Amtrak Carpinteria to Santa Barbara takes 19 minutes and costs $8 Coach). Check the Amtrak site for the Pacific Surfliner stops and schedule.

Staying in the cottages, you will hear the train often (maybe once an hour) during the day. It didn't bother me; it just added to the retro ambiance.

Check out this video tour I put together showing the cottage. Excuse my tinny-sounding voice—I think I need to spring for a microphone!

I had a fantastic month staying in the charming town of Carpinteria. Be sure to check it out when you get a chance!

Booking Tips for Carpinteria Beach Cottages

  • Minimum Stay: The city of Carpinteria requires vacation rentals to have a minimum stay of 31 nights. If you're dreaming of a month-long getaway, this property is a perfect fit.
  • How I Booked: I joined their email list and kept an eye on special offers. Eventually, I received an email for 10% off their winter rate. Well worth the wait!
  • Best Time to Book: For the best deals, consider visiting in the winter or shoulder seasons when prices are lower but the weather is still mild.
  • Pet Policy: Pets are welcome for an additional $150 fee, a huge bonus for those traveling with furry companions.
  • Communication: The property manager was friendly, responsive, and made the whole process smooth which is always reassuring when you're planning a longer stay.
