When I was planning my Paris trip, I went down the familiar rabbit hole of hotel hunting: maps open, tabs everywhere, and a spreadsheet that would make NASA proud. My mission: find a safe hotel for solo travel in Paris that felt local, charming, and reasonably priced.
After far too many hours comparing reviews (and maybe a croissant or two for fortitude and inspiration), I landed on Hôtel des Comédies in the 10th arrondissement. It turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for, an independent, comfortable, and genuinely Parisian boutique hotel that’s a 2 minute walk to the Bonne Nouvelle Metro stop and surrounded by local cafés.
Check out my video tour of Hotel des Comdies here:
Hotel at a Glance
- Category: 3-star boutique hotel
- Neighborhood: 10th arrondissement (near Bonne Nouvelle Metro stop)
- Rate I Paid: ~€220 per night
- Perks: Updated rooms, air conditioning, mini fridge, continental breakfast
- Best For: Solo travelers wanting a safe, local-feeling stay in Paris
Why I Chose Hôtel des Comédies in Paris
As a solo traveler, I wanted someplace that felt authentically Parisian. Not overly polished, not overrun with tourists, and definitely easy to navigate. Hôtel des Comédies checked all of those boxes.
What It’s Like Staying in the 10th Arrondissement
This neighborhood feels lived-in, in the best way. A couple of evenings I sat at a café near the hotel and just watched the neighborhood flow by:
- Women in trench coats
- Men in sharp suits you’d rarely see in the U.S.
- Friends greeting each other with kisses on both cheeks
- People walking every kind of dog imaginable
- And yes… plenty of cigarette smoke : /
It honestly felt like I’d stumbled onto a Paris movie set, and I loved it.
Rooms and Amenities at Hôtel des Comédies
While the building is historic and shows a little wear (the carpets aren’t winning any design awards), the rooms have been recently updated. Inside my room I found:
- Flatscreen TV and cheerful décor
- Heavy floor-to-ceiling drapes
- A button that lowers an outside blackout screen (great for keeping the room cool)
- A remodeled bathroom with sleek shower fixtures, fog-free mirror, and hairdryer
- Mini fridge, electric kettle with coffee and tea, and a safe
- Air conditioning
- An elevator! (not always found in European hotels)

For me, this was everything I needed: clean, comfortable, modernized where it counts, and not overpriced (for Paris!).
Breakfast, Lounge, and Common Spaces
Just off the lobby there’s a small lounge area where you can sit any time of day. Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. daily and includes the usual continental spread: coffee, tea, croissants, breads, and cheese. Perfect fuel before heading out to explore Paris.

Staff and Service: My Experience
The front desk staff were friendly, kind, and helpful every time I interacted with them. As a solo traveler, that warmth really matters.
Location: Restaurants, Metro, and Local Vibe
Within minutes of walking out the hotel’s front door you’ll find:
- Excellent restaurants and cafés
- The Bonne Nouvelle Metro (lines 8&9) and the Strasbourg-St Denis Metro (lines 4, 8 & 9) stops, making it easy to zip across the city
- A lively but not chaotic local neighborhood
It gave me the “I’m in Europe” feeling I always crave, without having to push through bus tours or souvenir stalls.
Final Thoughts: Would I Stay Again?
Absolutely. Hôtel des Comédies isn’t luxury, but it’s independent, authentic, and affordable for Paris. The location in the 10th arrondissement gives you a real neighborhood vibe while still being convenient for sightseeing.
If you’re looking for a safe, boutique hotel in Paris that won’t blow your budget, I can confidently recommend Hôtel des Comédies.
